RIP Amy.

Rest in peace, Amy.

23rd July 2011. Singer Amy Winehouse, 27, has been found dead at her north London home. Rest in peace Amy.

Troubled though she was — and which true artist isn’t? — Amy Winehouse had the most fantastic voice. I wish I’d got to write with her.

A spin on Stevie Smith’s poem seems apt. I don’t think she’d mind.

Not Waving But Drowning.

Nobody heard her, the dead woman,
But still she lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor girl, she always loved larking
And now she’s dead
It must have been too cold for her, her heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.
